What This Service Involves

Boulder walls, sometimes called rockeries, use quarried stone stacked to retain soil while resembling a natural outcropping. They suit the wooded, rolling terrain of Western Washington and drain well thanks to the gaps between the stones. We set each boulder on a stable base with the right batter and backfill so the wall stays put through wet winters and ground movement. Larger boulders and taller walls call for machinery and, where required, engineering. The finished wall feels at home in a Northwest landscape and needs very little upkeep.

1) Assess the slope and plan boulder sizing and placement; 2) Excavate and build a compacted, level base; 3) Set boulders with proper batter, backfilling with drainage rock; 4) Blend the grade and add soil or plantings between stones
